Get StartedAt Fusion Glass, we're driven by a mission to address the urgent environmental crises linked to sand overexploitation and glass production. We've harnessed the power of PLA and nanocellulose to develop a groundbreaking glass replacement material.
The global demand for sand, particularly for glass production, has led to ecological disasters, from sinking river deltas to disrupted water flows in Sri Lanka causing floods. To counteract this, Fusion Glass has developed a composite made up of PLA, MFC and Lactic Acid Oligomer which serves as a replacement material of glass. This material is manufactured by using a twin screw excruder to create a homogenous mixture of materials, which after continuous strands after exiting the extruder which are molded into a bottle. This composite was specifically chosen to maximize tensile strength and stiffness without comprimising on Glass Transitional Temperature.

Producing 1 gram of conventional glass emits 3 grams of CO2. In contrast, our PLA and nanocellulose material generates only 0.5 grams, achieving a 500% reduction in carbon emissions.
The PLA and nanocellulose material, on average, weighs 476% less than glass. Glass, being a heavy material, significantly inflates transportation costs and its associated environmental footprint.

While glass typically requires one million years to decompose and faces limited recycling due to economic challenges, our PLA bottle degrades within days in standard composting conditions.
